Detective Mystery Game
Reviewed by Kit Scott
My partner and I were recently looking for date ideas. We’ve done the dinners, the movies, the shows, the mini golf. We wanted something a bit different, not TOO expensive, and perhaps something we could do comfortably at home.
We really enjoyed completing the horror Annabelle-themed escape room last year, and a murder mystery case pack popped up on my feed one afternoon while doomscrolling. We love to solve things, so I thought it was worth a go.
We took an afternoon to sit in the living room with a few snacks, and solve a crime, and I really loved it. We went for The Van Hout story by Detective Mystery Masters, I was swayed by their lower prices (I know that there are many other options on the market with higher quality documents and props - we may try one of those in the future now we have seen how fun it is).
I am a person who really enjoys logic and identifying patterns, particularly to solve a puzzle, so this really satisfied my enjoyment of following a process, gathering more information, and going back over the pattern you have already established. This is a game that involves taking notes, plotting out timelines, and retracing your steps.
My partner’s thoughts…“This was a fun weekend afternoon activity, not too difficult that you feel stuck at any point, but tricky enough that it isn’t boring. I would happily investigate one of their mysteries again!”
