Daniela Diaz Leano

Registered Psychologist
(Melbourne)

I'm an experienced child psychologist, originally from Colombia where I worked within the government sector supporting children, teenagers and families experiencing vulnerable situations and trauma. In addition, I worked in a private practice with Autistic children and their families.

I moved to Australia 4 years ago and began the process of validating my profession which involved completing a supervised internship as a provisional psychologist until becoming fully registered. This process led to a delightful journey of learning about The Australian culture, its people and how to support Australian families effectively. Prior to commencing my validation process I was supporting young adults via telehealth sessions back in my country. This worked involved assisting them with concerns such as anxiety, depression, low self esteem and decision making difficulties. Within Australia I have been working in the private practice sector with children and their families supporting them through adjustment processes, anxiety related situations, emotional regulation, & parenting strategies.

Most of the people I work with are neurodivergent as I am committed to supporting them to assist in making their own and their family's lives as enjoyable as possible while minimising the impact of their challenges and enhancing their strengths. All of this has been inspired by my own lived experience with neurodivergent family members including my partner.

Outside of work I enjoy my time with my little son and partner. I like to also take time to pursue my career as children's book author. I enjoy to sing and play my ukulele and cooking Colombian food for my partner and friends when they visit.
